Saskia Middeldorp is qualified as a medical doctor at the University of Amsterdam in 1992. She received her training in internal medicine at the Academic Medical Center in Amsterdam and obtained her board licence in 1999 (subspecialty Vascular Medicine, 2002). Since December 2010, she is professor and co-chair of the Department of Vascular Medicine of the Academic Medical Center.

She leads the residency program of vascular medicine. Furthermore, she coordinates the module Clinical Scientific Methods of the Bachelor program of the medical faculty of the University of Amsterdam.

Prof. dr. Middeldorp looks after all patients with vascular medical diseases, with a focus on thrombosis and bleeding. She is considered an expert in women’s issues of thrombosis, such as pregnancy-related thrombosis, thrombophilia and pregnancy complications, and questions regarding the use of hormones in women with an increased tendency of thrombosis.

Her present research focuses on several aspects of hereditary and acquired thrombophilia, women’s issues in thrombosis and haemostasis, and the clinical evaluation of new anticoagulants.

Dr. Le Gal is a Professor in the Division of Hematology of the Department of Medicine at the University of Ottawa, a physician in the Thrombosis Program, Division of Hematology at The Ottawa Hospital, and a Senior Scientist in the Ottawa Hospital Research Institute, Clinical Epidemiology Program.

Dr. Le Gal’s primary research interest is the diagnosis and management of VTE. He has over 200 peer-reviewed publications in general internal medicine and specialized journals. He is a member of the international advisory board of the Journal of Thrombosis and Haemostasis, and a reviewer for main general internal medicine and thrombosis journals. He has been the principal investigator of several multicenter multinational projects on the diagnosis and management of VTE.

Timothy Brighton (Australia) is currently a Senior Staff Haematologist at Prince of Wales Hospital in Sydney. He is a Consultant Haematologist at Prince of Wales Private Hospital and Haematopathologist and Clinical Director of Department of Haematology & Molecular Genetics within SEALS laboratory at Randwick. Tim worked at St George Hospital as a Consultant Haematologist from 1995-2005 and then moved to Prince of Wales Hospital (2005-current). He is a member of HSANZ, ANZSBT and ASTH. He served on ASTH council for 6 years as Councillor Treasurer (1999-2005) and was Chair of the ASTH Clinical Trials Group since inception until 2015. During this time he was Principal Investigator of the ASPIRE study. He is currently Secretary and councillor for HSANZ. He coordinates registrar training in NSW/ACT for Haematology. He is a member of ALLG, ASH, and ISTH in addition to other medical societies. He was secretary for the ISTH Sydney 2005 meeting and is on the organising committee for the Melbourne 2019 ISTH meeting.

 Tim has focused during his career on laboratory and clinical research in platelet disorders, bleeding disorders, and the investigation and management of thrombosis. He continues to participates in numerous malignant and non-malignant sponsored and investigator-initiated clinical research studies.

Per Morten Sandset is a Norwegian doctor at Oslo University Hospital and professor of medicine at the University of Oslo.

He is a specialist in general internal medicine and blood disorders, and is research director at the Cancer, surgical procedure and transplantation clinic and chief physician at the Department of Haematology at Oslo University. He was previously Head of the Hematology Department at Ullevaal University Hospital (2002-2010). Dr. Sandset was appointed professor at the University in 2002. He received his doctorate in 1989 at the University with the dissertation Studies on Tissue Factor Pathway Inhibitor. He has been doing research in San Diego, USA, and in Florence, Italy. Dr. Sandset is Editor-in-Chief of the international journal Thrombosis Research.

Dr. Rodger holds a Faculty of Medicine Clinical Research Chair in Venous Thrombosis and Thrombophilia and a Career Scientist Award from the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada (HSFC). Dr. Rodger founded the Ottawa Hospital General Campus Thrombosis Program in 1998, which merged with the Civic Campus Thrombosis Program (founded by Dr. Phil Wells) in 2002. Dr. Rodger led the development of the Champlain LHIN Regional Thrombosis Program which was launched in 2010 and serves a population of over 1 million. In 2012, as Chief of Hematology he also led the development of the Ottawa Blood Disease Center: A state of the art world class facility housing the clinical, research, teaching and administrative components of the Division of Hematology.

Dr. Rodger’s research program is focused on venous thrombosis and thrombophilia with specific focus on 1) thrombosis/ thrombophilia in pregnancy and 2) venous thrombosis: optimal management. With over $20 million in principal investigator funding over his lifetime to conduct research in these areas, he has generated over 200 peer-reviewed publications.
